Dieting for Vegetarians: Vitamin Secrets

Dieting for vegetarians need not be complicated. As a vegetarian, you are already aware of how to provide all the nutrients your body requires, including protein from vegetable rather than meat sources. Your biggest challenge in cutting calories will be ensuring that you do not eliminate those nutrients your metabolism requires for optimal operation.

You metabolism is the sum total of the physiological chemical reactions taking place behind the scenes that sustain your life. Processing the raw materials of the foods you eat into energy for activity and proteins for musculature are both vital activities in your metabolic system. By keeping that system operating at an optimum level, you can actually help your body burn more calories, and added to your reduced calorie intake, make your diet even more successful.

Nutrients are critical to the metabolization of foods, and the B-Complex vitamins are among the most active in facilitating the transformation of food into energy. When you are planning your calorie intake per day for your weight loss regime, be sure to pencil in a full contingent of foods rich in B-Complex, including green leafy vegetables, whole grains, nuts, peas and lentils, wheat germ, berries, and fruits. Eggs provide B-Complex elements, too, if you eat them.

While the Bs are good metabolism-boosters, don’t neglect the other essentials — A, C, D, E, and K. Each of these nutrients play key roles in keeping your bodily systems humming.

You may be asking where the weight loss element comes in, if you cannot cut out any of the nutrients that you eat already. Dieting for vegetarians and non-vegetarians have two things in common: you must exercise and cut calories.

By simply cutting back on the amount of calories you ingest each day, you will force your metabolism to access some of that fuel tucked away in your fat cells to continue processing at top capacity. At the same time, by exercising, you are asking your body to burn even more calories as you demand more of your physiology. So your metabolism makes another calorie withdrawal from that fat you want to get rid of.

As a vegetarian, you have already made positive lifestyle choices, and with your determination, a healthy body weight is just a step away!
