What You Need to Know Cooking Diet Vegetarian Recipes

Many people are interested in changing from meat-based diets to using more healthy diet vegetarian recipes. If you’re in that group, or just want to improve the quality of your vegetarian style of cooking, here are some suggestions to add flavor and pizzazz to your diet vegetarian recipes. It will take a little time to master them, but the results are well worth the effort.

Protein
Meat is the source of much of the protein in the average person’s diet. When meat is eliminated from a diet, protein substitutes must be added to ensure a well-balanced diet. You need to use plenty of foods like pasta, nuts, seeds, tofu, beans, peas and whole grain bread in your recipes. Soy replacement meats, such as turkey made from soy, are also good substitutes for meat.

Stock
Many recipes call for using stock. Chicken, beef and veal stock can all be easily replaced with vegetable stock. If you enjoy the flavor of wine, you can also replace meat-based stocks with red wine in richer dishes and white wine in lighter dishes.

Pressure Cooker
A pressure cooker is an excellent resource for flavorful vegetarian cooking. It also enables you to cook a tasty meal quickly. Root vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots and onions, along with some spices and water, can be cooked in less than 10 minutes. This makes a delicious soup or a hearty side dish. Asparagus, mushrooms and other vegetables are also good choices to be cooked this way.

Brown Rice
Most vegetarians prefer brown rice over the more common white rice. Brown rice is a wonderful addition to most meals. It can be cooked with one part of rice to two parts of water, or use coconut milk or a vegetable-based broth for more flavor. Chopped onions or carrots make excellent additions, as does a sprinkling of pine nuts, browned almonds, or tofu.

Fruit
A sweet, fruity dish provides the perfect ending for a meal. Cook fruits in your microwave or pressure cooker. Applesauce, banana pudding or apple halves cooked with cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins are good choices.
